Alopecia/Hair Loss Treatment in Ipoh | PIFU Clinic

A proper diagnosis matters because the right treatment depends on identifying what's actually driving your hair loss — not just treating the symptom

Hair loss treatment involves oral medication, hormonal considerations, and injectable/laser procedures — all of which fall under medical care. At PIFU Clinic, every step of your hair loss plan is overseen by Dr. Sean Tan, an LCP-certified aesthetic physician, registered with the Ministry of Health Malaysia. That means your treatment plan is based on an actual diagnosis, not a fixed package sold regardless of your specific cause of hair loss.

Is hair loss treatment only for severe cases?

No — the earlier it's addressed, the more treatment options are available and the better the results tend to be. Many patients start with medical management long before considering a transplant.

How long before I see results?

Hair growth cycles are slow. Most patients are advised to commit to at least 3-6 months of consistent treatment before evaluating results — this isn't a same-week fix.

Do I need a hair transplant?

Not necessarily. A transplant (FUE) is typically only recommended for more advanced hair loss where medical management alone isn't enough to restore density. Your doctor will assess this with you directly.

What's exosome therapy?

Exosomes are used to support and stimulate the scalp environment around hair follicles, often as part of a broader hair restoration plan alongside medical managemen

Is this treatment only for men?

No — hair loss affects women too, often due to hormonal changes, postpartum shifts, or thyroid issues. The same assessment-first approach applies regardless of gender.

How to prevent alopecia from happening again after treatment

Once your hair loss is under control, we recommend Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) using a full-cap device — 25 minutes, twice a week — as an ongoing maintenance step to help sustain results long-term.

Your expected downtime may vary depending on the condition being treated and the intensity of the treatment performed.

Understanding Hairloss & Alopecia

Noticing more hair on your pillow, in the shower drain, or a hairline that's crept back further than it used to? You're not alone, and you don't need to jump straight to a transplant to do something about it. At PIFU Clinic, hair loss is treated the same way we treat everything else — with a proper assessment first, and a plan that actually fits your stage of hair loss, not a one-size-fits-all package

Hair loss is one of the most common things men quietly worry about, and one of the least talked about. Unlike a skin concern, it's easy to convince yourself it's "just genetics" or "not that bad yet" — until it is. The earlier hair loss is addressed, the more options are available and the better the results tend to be. This isn't about vanity — caring about how you look is a completely normal, healthy thing, and there's no reason to wait until you're out of options to do something about it.

What Causes Hair Loss

Most hair loss is androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss) — a genetically-driven, hormone-sensitive process that gradually shrinks hair follicles over time. Other contributing factors can include:

  • Stress and lifestyle factors
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Thyroid and hormonal imbalances
  • Scalp conditions affecting follicle health

A proper diagnosis matters because the right treatment depends on identifying what's actually driving your hair loss — not just treating the symptom.

Our Approach: A Phased, Doctor-Led Plan

We don't believe in a single quick fix for hair loss — because there isn't one that works for everyone. Here's how we typically structure treatment:

1. Assessment & Medical Management (First 3-6 Months)

Treatment usually begins with oral medication alongside topical 5% Minoxidil and a medicated hair serum/shampoo, taken consistently over a 3-6 month period. This foundational phase addresses the hormonal and follicular factors driving hair loss from the inside out.

2. Exosome Therapy

Exosome treatment sessions are used to support and stimulate hair follicles, often alongside the medical management phase, as part of a recommended treatment series.

3. Ongoing Maintenance: LLLT

Once your hair loss is under control, we recommend Hairfull,  Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) using a full-cap device — 25 minutes, twice a week — as an ongoing maintenance step to help sustain results long-term.

4. Long-Term Touch-Ups (Every 6 Months)

To maintain results over the years, we recommend a maintenance session roughly every 6 months, using either Dr.CYJ hair filler, exosome therapy, or PRP (platelet-rich plasma) — whichever suits your budget and response best.

5. For Advanced Cases: Hair Transplant Referral

If your hair loss has progressed to a stage where a hair transplant (FUE) is the more suitable option, we refer patients to Dr. Aly, a specialist in hair transplantation. Post-transplant, we recommend continuing with exosome therapy every 3 months to support graft health and ongoing scalp maintenance.
